Park History Kilimanjaro is located in Northern Tanzania 48 km from Moshi town and covers an area of 1,668 square km. The park was declared game reserve in 1910 and a forest reserve in 1921. In 1973 it was gazetted National Park in 1973 and UNESCO world heritage site in 1987, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in 2013. How to get there By road:123 km, a two-hour drive from the city of Arusha or 48 km, an hour drive from Moshi town to Marangu Gate and 86km one hour and a half drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Best time to visit Mount Kilimanjaro is proximal to the equatorial region where it does not experience the extremes of winter and summer weather, but rather dry and wet seasons. Therefore, the best time to climb Kilimanjaro tends to be the warmest and driest months. Our primary issue in recommending best traveling time is safety, as the risks associated with climbing increase significantly when the weather is foul. The effects of rain, mud, snow, ice and cold can be very strenuous on the body. Correspondingly, your chance of a successful summit also increases significantly with nice weather. Of course, the mountain gets more foot traffic during these periods as well. Mountain climbing can be done throughout the year.
